Volkswagen T4 Camper Guide

Introduced in mid 1990, the Volkswagen T4 came rolling off the factory line to replace the rear-engine design of the Volkswagen T3.

The versatile VW T4 Kombi (aka Transporter) was launched with four engine choices; two diesel and two petrol engines. Diesel saw the choice of either a 4 cylinder 1.9 diesel (which in 1993 became the 1.9 turbo diesel) or the 5 cylinder 2.4 diesel option. With petrol you could choose either the 4 cylinder or the 5 cylinder engine.

In 1996 a new range of engines was introduced for the Volkswagen T4 along with some vehicle modifications including foam filled one piece bumpers, rear disc brakes, engine and gear box mounting modifications, rotary heater controls and additional rust proofing treatment.

The Volkswagen T4 was soon picked up for camper van conversions by Westfalia, Auto-Sleepers, Bilbo's Design and Reimo. With the new generation of Volkswagen campervans the camper van scene was really starting to look good.
